Members of Rotary clubs have already proven themselves to be leaders in
their communities. For Rotary to thrive and clubs to be effective, it is
essential to further develop these leadership skills so that more
Rotarians are prepared to serve in leadership roles beyond the club
level. This work begins in the district, and as district governor, you
are in a unique position to appoint a qualified group of leaders
dedicated to furthering their service to Rotary.
This chapter covers your responsibilities for developing future leaders
in your district. As district governor-elect, you will identify and
appoint district leaders and encourage club leaders to develop their
skills as potential district leaders at the presidents-elect training
seminar (PETS) and the district assembly. Once you are governor, your
work will continue with club leadership at the district Rotary
Foundation seminar, district membership seminar, the district
conference, and the district leadership seminar. By developing leaders,
you will make clubs more effective, strengthening both your district
and Rotary International.
