In an organization where the leadership changes annually, effective training is critical. The purpose of all club and district training meetings is to provide club- and district-level officers with the skills and knowledge necessary to develop and support effective clubs. The leadership development cycle for Rotary International and its Foundation is based on integrated district training meetings:

These meetings occur at the district level under the supervision of the governor-elect or governor and are vital to the continued success of Rotary.

District Team Training Seminar

The purpose of the district team training seminar, conducted through preliminary training and an on-site training session held after the International Assembly and before PETS, is to prepare your assistant governors and district committees for the coming year. Assistant governors and district committee members discuss their roles and responsibilities, how to work with clubs and each other, and resources available to help them in fulfilling their responsibilities. They also work with the governor-elect to discuss the district’s goals for the coming year and to identify strategies for supporting clubs.

Presidents-elect Training Seminar (PETS)

The purpose of the presidents-elect training seminar (PETS) is to orient and train incoming club presidents to provide effective leadership at the club level. PETS provides a unique opportunity for governors-elect to motivate and educate the incoming presidents to carry out club and district goals for the ensuing year. PETS is held after the International Assembly, preferably in March, so that you can share with club presidents the RI president’s goals for the upcoming year.

The success of the seminar depends on the strength of the program. Work with the district trainer, assistant governors, and other appropriate district leaders to make the ready-to-use sessions from the PETS Leaders’ Guide applicable to the specific needs of the district and to ensure that training is relevant and inspirational.

While PETS serves as a forum to educate club presidents-elect on their responsibilities and opportunities for service, it also allows them to get to know you and the district leadership team, while participating in the development of district goals and gaining an understanding of their role in achieving those goals.

District Assembly

The district assembly, held after the district team training seminar and the presidents-elect training seminar, preferably in April or May, focuses on developing Rotary club leaders who have the necessary skills, knowledge, and motivation to sustain an effective Rotary club.

Work with the district trainer, assistant governors, and other appropriate district leaders to make the ready-to-use sessions from the District Assembly Leaders’ Guide applicable to the specific needs of the district and to ensure that training is relevant and inspirational. The scope of this meeting varies from district to district. Familiarize yourself with its learning objectives. This meeting is your opportunity to ensure Rotary information reaches Rotarians at the club level. Focus on increasing attendance for this meeting.

District Membership Seminar

The district membership seminar is an opportunity to train district and/or club leaders who have the necessary skills, knowledge, and motivation to help clubs retain, recruit, and extend their membership base. You may choose to invite all Rotarians from the district to attend this seminar in August (Membership Month), or you may hold it in conjunction with the district assembly for club membership development committee members.

Rotaract Leadership Training

All incoming Rotaract club officers should receive leadership training at the district level. This training should include a one- or two-day leadership training seminar conducted by the district Rotaract representative in conjunction with the RI district Rotaract committee for all incoming Rotaract club officers, directors, and committee chairs to be funded by the sponsoring Rotary clubs. Where appropriate, training should be included as part of the program of the Rotary district assembly.

The object of the district Rotary Foundation seminar is to educate all Rotarians and instill a sense of personal responsibility for the Foundation, resulting in continued and increased program participation and financial support. The seminar is targeted toward club leadership as well as other interested Rotarians. For more information on this seminar, refer to chapter 4 of this manual.

District Conference

The district conference is not primarily intended for leadership development. However, it will be an important event during your year as governor and a good opportunity to highlight the success of your leadership training. You may also choose to use this meeting as an opportunity to provide orientation to new members and continuing education for others. The success of the district conference depends in part on your efforts and planning. A sample of the district conference report, due to the international office serving your district, can be found in chapter 12.

District Leadership Seminar

地區領導研習會是與地區年會合併舉辦，讓已經擔任過扶輪社社長或在扶輪社擔任3年以上領導職務的有興趣的扶輪人有機會來學習於扶輪社以上層級服務時所需具備的技巧、知識及動力。

The district leadership seminar, held in conjunction with the district conference, provides an opportunity for interested Rotarians who have served as club president or have served for three or more years in a leadership role in the club to develop the necessary skills, knowledge, and motivation to serve in Rotary beyond the club level.
