Establishing District Goals

Now that you have a fairly objective inventory of the status of your district, you are ready to think about setting goals. Keep in mind that an effective goal is

  • 可以衡量的。目標必須是可用數量加以說明。例如,〝從事籌組新的扶輪社〞就沒有〝在630日以前授證成立兩個新的扶輪社〞來的有效率。可於年底做客觀評估的一個可衡量的目標。

  • Measurable. The goal should be stated in quantifiable terms. For example, “Work on organizing new clubs” is less effective than “Charter two new clubs by 30 June.” A measurable goal can be objectively evaluated at the end of the year.

  • 可以達成的。您的目標必須是實際可行的,也就是可以根據你預期在完成目標的時間範圍內,所能獲得或期待能夠獲得的資源,包括物質與義工奉獻的時間,來完今的目標。

  • Achievable. Your goals should be realistic, based on the material and volunteer resources you have or can expect to have, within the time frame established for your district’s goals.

  • Challenging. Achieving your goal will require vision, planning, teamwork, effort, and follow-through by you and those whom you will lead next year.

  • Shared. Those who will be implementing the goals should have a voice in developing some of the specific details for each goal. In particular, district committee chairs and assistant governors should be included in the goal-setting process.

Consider these key district activities when setting district goals:

  • 社員成長及防止社員流失

  • Membership growth and retention

  • 服務計劃

  • Service projects

  • Participation in Rotary International programs

  • Support of The Rotary Foundation programs through participation and contributions

  • Public relations

  • District administration (e.g., effectiveness of district committees, communication, district files)

Using the District Inventory and the preceding list of key district activities, establish preliminary goals for your year as governor. Select goals that address those items most in need of attention. Remember that the goal-setting process has just begun and that it is strengthened when you receive input and commitment from others. Be prepared to share your preliminary goals with your district leadership team at your district team training seminar and ensure that your goals are supported by all. This consensus approach will guarantee a year of service that has clear, known goals and the means to achieve them.
