Work with the advisers of your district leadership team, past district governors, the governor-elect, and the governor-nominee, to select qualified Rotarians for district positions. Once appointments have been made, work with assistant governors and committee members to finalize goals, establish strategies, assign responsibilities, and define reporting procedures. Doing this work before your year of service begins will give you the maximum amount of time to achieve your goals. Working with your leadership team to finalize your goals will ensure that they are shared and, consequently, more effective.

Use the District Appointments Worksheet on page 111 to match your draft goals for the district with the appropriate position or committee. Begin to list the names of Rotarians who will serve on your district leadership team. Refer to the detailed description of the responsibilities of the eight recommended committees in the appendix to this chapter. Once your appointments have been finalized, fill out the District Appointment form*, located in chapter 12, and forward it to your RI office. This will ensure that they receive all official RI mailings.

Several months before your district team training seminar, contact the Rotarians you wish to appoint, clarify your expectations as well as their responsibilities, and obtain their commitment to serve. Also let them know the dates for the training meetings that they are expected to attend. To make the best use of your time, suggest specific projects that they can prepare for now and begin working on as soon as your year begins.
