Your district goals help to determine guidelines for the Foundation Trustees as they plan future program expenditures. As governor-elect, you should begin to draft goals to share with your district Rotary Foundation committee. You will be asked to submit your Annual Program Fund giving goal at the International Assembly. Remember to bring this and your other goals related to the Foundation to the International Assembly.

Goal setting is the link between program involvement and financial support. It is a tool for planning projects that will increase service opportunities in the district. For example, if the district enjoys sponsoring Ambassadorial Scholars, increase the goal for annual giving during your year as governor so that your district may send more Ambassadorial Scholars in three years through the SHARE system. Remember, linking financial goals with program participation is an essential element in motivating clubs to support the Foundation.

The district Foundation profile, which provides contribution and program participation histories, will aid in the goal-setting process. This profile will be sent to you in October of your year as governor-elect, along with the Foundation Goal Report form. Distribute copies of the form to your committee to use as a resource when setting goals and bring the form to the International Assembly. You will also want to work with your assistant governors in establishing club Foundation goals that support the district goals.

The Trustees have requested every district to identify a specific goal for both Annual Programs Fund and Permanent Fund giving.

• Communicate ways to highlight the Foundation in club programs, bulletins, and activities with club chairs.

• Establish a challenge or citation program to recognize top clubs and individuals for your year.

• Coordinate effective fundraising methods for your district. Keep a public account of general contributions pledged from each club, number of Paul Harris Fellows, number of Benefactors, applications for Foundation grants, and volunteer participation. Your emphasis should be on recognizing active clubs and motivating inactive ones. In all cases, stress the importance of fulfilling district and club commitments. Emphasize that every Rotarian should contribute every year to The Rotary Foundation.
