District governors play a key role in the success of the Foundation at the district level by supporting The Rotary Foundation in terms of Rotary club program participation and financial contributions.

Your responsibilities as governor:

1.    Appoint a district Rotary Foundation committee (DRFC) and establish Foundation goals.

2.    Support your district Rotary Foundation committee as it conducts a district Rotary Foundation seminar during your term in office to motivate and inspire Rotarians to carry out club and district service projects that fully utilize the opportunities provided by the Foundation.

3.    Communicate progress in achieving Foundation goals to Rotarians in the district and your regional Rotary Foundation coordinator through the district Rotary Foundation committee, assistant governors, and club Rotary Foundation committees, as well as your official visits.

4.    Continually educate and inform members about Foundation programs, contributions, seminars, publications, meetings, and other matters through your governor’s monthly letter.

5.    During the district conference, participate in Foundation public relations and promotion, review progress toward reaching district Foundation goals, and thank Rotarians for the contributions they have made toward achieving them. (Make a final appeal if goals have not yet been achieved.)

6.    Attend the Rotary zone institute to review goals, progress, and problems with other district governors and make adjustments if necessary.

3.       Participate in selection and orientation of incoming Ambassadorial Scholars and GSE team members.

Your responsibilities as governor:

1.       Increase per capita giving to the Annual Programs Fund in your district.

2.       Lead by example. Make your Annual Programs Fund contribution now. Become a Benefactor, become a member of the Rotary Foundation Bequest Society, or make a major gift.

3.       Take part in the SHARE system district subcommittee. Starting in 2003-04, the district Rotary Foundation committee chair has primary responsibility for allocation and distribution of SHARE District Designated Funds (DDF).* As district governor, you are responsible for supporting the SHARE system by

• Appointing a district Rotary Foundation committee chair. The Rotary Foundation will accept only this individual’s signature on the SHARE Decision Worksheet for the next program year (sent to the chair in November and due to The Rotary Foundation no later than 1 March).

• Ensuring that all available SHARE DDF is allocated during your year as governor.

The Rotary Foundation Trustees have set a goal of US$100 per capita giving to the Annual Programs Fund by 2005, the 100th anniversary of Rotary. The Annual Programs Fund is the financial basis for all Foundation programs.
