鑑於當今世局重重困難-戰爭、暴力、經濟蕭條、國際緊張、企業倒閉---若假設扶輪在這一年發展緩慢也是很合理，因為每個人都有太多事要擔憂，無力撥出時間參與聯誼及服務。我在此十分高興向各位報告，事實恰恰相反。扶輪社員非但沒有因各種難關而畏卻，反而逝身向前，重新燃起使命感，迎向挑戰。
Considering the troubles in the world right now — war, violence, recession, international tensions, business failures — it might be reasonable to assume that it has been a slow year for Rotary because everyone has too many worries to take time for fellowship and service. It is my pleasure to report that the opposite is true. Rather than becoming overwhelmed by the problems that plague our world, Rotarians are rising to meet these challenges with a renewed sense of mission.
在過去一年當中，得以前往世界各地，看到這麼多扶輪社員生活與工作的地方，對我來說實在是一項莫大的殊榮。能有機會親眼見證行動中的扶輪與扶輪社員，對我來說是最珍貴的一件事。在本年度接近尾聲之際，我對這個組織的信賴尤甚以往。扶輪有力量把3萬1000餘個社區中超過120萬名全球最優秀的男女集結在一起。然而扶輪也有其彈性，讓各社區的扶輪社自行調整扶輪計劃，來配合其需求與理想。
During this last year, it has indeed been a great privilege to travel all over the world and see so many Rotarians where they live and where they work. Nothing is more precious to me than the opportunities I have had to witness Rotary and Rotarians in action, and as the year draws to a close, my belief in this organization is greater than ever before. Rotary has the strength to bring together more than 31,000 communities made up of 1.2 million of the finest men and women on earth. Yet Rotary also has the flexibility to permit each club in each community to adapt the program of Rotary to its own needs and ideals.

輪社合作，透過配合獎助金等扶輪基金會計劃來推動國服務計劃，或僅僅是回應其社區的需求。我們服務行動就跟扶輪世界本身一樣多元化，可是它們都有一項共同點---它們都在播撒愛心的種子。
Each club has set its own course and worked toward its own goals — such as supporting high-profile projects like PolioPlus and the Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution, or partnering with other clubs on international projects through Matching Grants and other Rotary Foundation programs, or simply responding to the needs in their own communities. Our acts of service are as varied as the Rotary world itself, but they have one thing in common — they all Sow the Seeds of Love.
我想在此感謝扶輪世界各地的每個人，感謝各位的善心與支持。在我們展望新的扶輪年度之際，且讓我表達我衷心的期盼---讓我們找出許多方法---以愛心---「伸出援手」。
