I AM VERY PROUD TO BE A ROTARIAN.

IT HAS GIVEN ME THE OPPORTUNITY OF HELPING OTHERS AND THE SATISFACTION OF DOING SO AND HAS GIVEN ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET MANY PEOPLE NOT ONLY IN MY CLUB BUT ALL OVER THE WORLD.

IT HAS SHOWN ME THE PATH OF SERVICE, HOW ONE SMALL THING CAN LEAD TO A GREAT THING, LIKE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION, WITH MY CONTRIBUTION, I HAVE HELPED IN THE INMUNIZATION OF POLIO, IN THE BUILDING OF WELLS IN THE WORLD, IN HELPING NEEDY PEOPLE IN AFRICA. I HAVE VISITED, AMONG OTHER PLACES,  THE ROTARY VILLAGE CORPS NOW ROTARY COMMUNITY CORPS, IN THE PHILIPPINES AND SEEN HOW A SMALL SEED CAN LEAD TO A BETTER LIFE.

I HAVE SEEN THE FACES OF THE ELDERLY WHEN WE VISIT THEM, ROTARY IS NOT ONLY MONEY, BUT IT IS THE CARE WE SHOW FOR PEOPLE THAT IN MANY CASES, HAVE BEEN ABANDONED BY THEIR RELATIVES.

I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED WITH THE ROTARY FOUNDATION IN WHICH I HAVE RECEIVED GREAT SATISFACTIONS, SINCE IT HAS GIVEN ME ANSWERS TO BIG PROBLEMS, MANY OF THEM HAVE BEEN VERY CREATIVE AND WE HAVE SHARED THEM WITH EXCELLENT PEOPLE, WE HAVE LEARNED TO SERVE AND LOVE THE FOUNDATION.

IT HAS ALSO GIVEN ME THE OPPORTUNITY OF GETTING CLOSER TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE AND LEARN AGAIN THEIR WAY OF THINKING AND HELP THEM FORM CLUBS LIKE INTERACT, DURING THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STAGE OF THEIR LIVES.

WE HAVE WITNESSED AND PARTICIPATED IN BIG ACHIEVEMENTS LIKE THE POLIO ERRADICATION AND HAVE BEEN LUCKY THAT THE YEAR I WAS A DISTRICT GOVERNOR, BELLS STARTED RINGING ON TWO GREAT EVENTS:  THE GOAL WAS SURPASSED IN THE ORIGINAL FIGURES FOR POLIO PLUS CAMPAIGN AND THE APPROVAL OF WOMEN ENTERING ROTARY WAS ACHIEVED.

I HAVE LEARNED FROM PEOPLE WHO KNOW MUCH MORE THAN I DO AND WHO HAVE AN ECONOMIC FORTUNE GREATER THAN MINE, ALSO THAT TOLERANCE AND HUMBLENESS ARE THE TWO EFFECTIVE INSTRUMENTS TO CARRY A MORE REWARDING LIFE.

AND ABOVE ALL, THANKS TO MY INVOLVEMENT WITH ALL THE ROTARY PROGRAMS, I HAVE LEARNED TO LOVE MORE AND SHARE MORE WITH MY PARTNER AND WIFE, JENNY, WITH OUR CHILDREN, DAUGHTERS IN LAW AND GRANDCHILDREN, AND THEY ALL SHAARE WITH ME MY LOVE FOR ROTARY.

I COULD GO ON AND ON AND PERHAPS STILL NOT EXPRESS AS MUCH AS I WANT TO, THE SATISFACTION I HAVE, SATISFACTION SHARED BY JENNY, MY WIFE, OF BELONGING TO THE WORLD’S GREATEST ORGANIZATION OF SERVICE AND FEELING THE PRIDE OF ANSWERING, WHEN I AM ASKED, “WHAT IS THAT PIN IN YOUR LAPEL YOU ARE WEARING?”, AND I REPLY: “I AM A MEMBER OF ROTARY INTERNATIONAL, THE WORLD’S GREATEST SERVICE ORGANIZATION.”
