Twenty-one Rotarian volunteers keep Rotary International apprised of the work of the United Nations and other intergovernmental organizations and raise Rotary's profile within the international community. We asked Robert A. Coultas (left), primary RI representative to the UN in New York: 

問：國際扶輪與聯合國的關係對世界瞭解有何幫助？

Q:    How do RI's links to the United Nations promote world understanding? 

答： 自聯合國成立起，扶輪對該組織與其促進和平的努力便一直很有興趣。1945年起草聯合國憲章的29國代表團當中有49名是扶輪社員，協助影響它對經濟、社會、與人道議題的重視。曾有5名扶輪社員擔任聯合國大會的主席。

A:    Rotary has had a sincere interest in the success of the UN and its peace-promoting efforts since the UN's founding. Forty-nine Rotarians in 29 national delegations were among the drafters of the UN charter in 1945 and helped influence its focus on economic, social, and humanitarian issues. Five Rotarians have served as president of a UN General Assembly session. 

聯合國官員認可在根除小兒痲痺運動中，扶輪是世界衛生組織、聯合國兒童基金會、美國疾病控制及預防中心在私人組織中的主要合作夥伴。國際扶輪曾與聯合國難民事務高級專員合作，運送180萬美元的補給品給阿富汗的難民。國際扶輪也與聯合國其他機構合作，處理有關愛滋病以及人口與發展的問題。

UN officials recognize Rotary as the leading private partner with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the campaign to eliminate polio. RI worked with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to deliver US$1.8 million in supplies to Afghan refugees. RI has worked with other UN agencies to address the HIV/AIDS pandemic and population and development concerns. 

2001-02年度扶輪基金會保管委員會主委季愛雅(Luis Giay)在聯合國宣佈第一批扶輪世界和平獎學金學者的名單，適足以顯示扶輪對聯合國的重視。國際扶輪社長陳裕財依循之前國際扶輪領袖的慣例，在聯合國一年一度的「扶輪日」發表演說。

Befitting the importance Rotary attaches to the UN, 2001-02 Rotary Foundation Trustee Chairman Luis Giay announced the first class of Rotary World Peace Scholars at the UN. RI President Bhichai Rattakul addressed the annual Rotary Day at the UN, as have other RI leaders. 

透過在聯合國會議發表的論文及展示品，以及在非政府組織委員會的領導角色，國際扶輪代表展現出扶輪對識字、消弭飢餓、青少年、婦女福祉、及環境問題的關心。在去年9月於南非約翰尼斯堡舉行的「永續發展世界高峰會」中，國際扶輪展出在薩爾瓦多辦理的一個保健、防飢、人道3-H獎助金計劃「清潔飲水與衛生」。

Through papers and exhibits presented at UN conferences and leadership in NGO (nongovernmental organization) committees, RI representatives demonstrate Rotary's commitment to literacy, hunger alleviation, youth, women's advancement, and the environment. At the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa, last September, RI showcased a Health, Hunger and Humanity (3-H) Clean Water and Sanitation project in El Salvador. 

總而言之，扶輪與聯合國聯手在全球已經締造許多成就。

Together, much can be accomplished on a global basis by Rotary and the United Nations.
