Rotaractors venture onto Malmo's streets as they simulated an attempt to flee Somalia.

「求求你， 叛軍在後面追著我們一家人。我太太和3 個小孩已經死在他們手上了。」一名索馬利亞男子向兜售假護照的販子苦苦哀求著；這名護照販子專門把假護照賣給那些拼命想逃離動盪不安的索馬利亞的難民。

"Please, the rebels are after my family. They already killed my wife and three kids," pleads the Somali man to a person hawking fake passports to people desperate to flee a tumultuous Somalia.

「100 塊。」護照販子拉長聲音說道，100塊是提供該男子和他7個家人一共8份護照的價錢。該男子和他的家人希望能前往丹麥尋求政治庇護。

"One hundred," drawls the passport broker, stating his price for eight passports for the man and his seven family members who hope to seek asylum in Denmark.

"But we need to eat," says the man.

"Ninety-five. Take it or leave it."

這名逃難的男子和他的家人們並非真正的索馬利亞難民，而是參加6 月9 日至10 日在馬爾摩舉行的2006 年「扶輪青年服務團年會前會議」中模擬難民的扶青團團員。扶輪青年服務團(Rotaract) 是國際扶輪為18 歲至30 歲青年設立之服務計劃。

The man and his family were not actually Somalis but Rotaractors participating in a refugee simulation at the 2006 Rotaract Preconvention Meeting, which took place in Malmö, Sweden, from 9–10 June. Rotaract is Rotary International's service program for people ages 18–30.

Other meeting activities included workshops to teach Rotaractors how to communicate with different cultures, network, increase public awareness about Rotary, organize service projects, create strong relationships between themselves and Rotarians, tap into The Rotary Foundation's resources, and incorporate professional development into their clubs.

"I'm so glad to be here," says Tim Hickey, president of the Rotaract Club of Auckland City, New Zealand, shortly before the Friday opening session. He was enjoying meeting his counterparts from other countries. "Today, I sat next to a Rotaractor from Ghana on the bus. I had never met anyone from Ghana before," he says.

So what about those eight "Somalis" and their attempt to reach Denmark? They spent several frustrating, chaotic hours pleading and negotiating with arrogant authorities for their signatures on paperwork so they could leave the country. The "authorities" were costumed volunteers with the Danish Red Cross Youth, which runs the intense simulation for students in an effort to educate them about the struggles refugees face. The exercise normally lasts an exhausting 24 hours.

In the simulation, the volunteers (in their roles as doctors, border officials, and government workers) yelled at the Rotaractors playing the Somalis and ordered them to perform sometimes nonsensical acts, like jumping up and down in unison at the hypothetical medical clinic.

The Rotaractors finally paid a guide who promised to help them get to Denmark. Pretending to be fleeing Somalia, the Rotaractors took to Malmö's streets. For more than an hour they followed their irritable guide's orders to crouch under office windows, duck behind billboards, walk around hypothetical landmines, run down sidewalks, and dash across streets, all while drivers in passing cars craned their necks in bewilderment. Hungry and thirsty, they eventually ended up in a refugee camp in Yemen.

「這是一個極佳的學習活動。」美國明尼蘇達雙子星市（Twin Cities） 扶青團員潘蜜拉．法蘭琪（Pamela Frasch）如是說道。「（政府官員）那種命令控制的方式讓我又憤怒又無力，也讓我（對難民們）有更深的敬意。」

"It was a good learning activity," said Pamela Frasch, 26, of the Rotaract Club of Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA. "I was frustrated and irritated at the command-and-control approach [of the authorities]. It brings a whole new level of respect [for refugees]."
