白義德曾是紐西蘭最大的雜誌經銷商戈登及高屈Gordon & Gotch雜誌公司的總經理，已於1995年退休。他現在是紐西蘭森林生存信託基金會New Zealand's Trees for Survival Trust及瓊•蓋瑞June Gray信託基金會主席。他曾是國際扶輪在紐西蘭全國腎臟基金會及智障協會的代表。現在是長老會前長老及前青少年領導人、受狀委任的童軍領導人、並曾擔任橄欖球裁判達31年之久。他曾任紐澳地域雜誌Rotary Down Under管理委員會的主委。

Bill retired in 1995 as general manager of Gordon & Gotch Magazines, Ltd., New Zealand's largest magazine distributor. He is a trustee of New Zealand's Trees for Survival Trust and the June Gray Trust and has represented Rotary on the National Kidney Foundation and the Intellectually Handicapped Society. He has been an elder and youth leader of the Presbyterian Church, a warranted Scout Leader, and rugby union football referee for 31 years. He was chair of the Rotary Down Under management committee.

A Rotarian since 1971, Bill is a member of the Rotary Club of Pakuranga. He has served RI as district governor, RI training leader, International Assembly assistant moderator and moderator, committee member and chair, task force assistant general coordinator, Rotary information counselor, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, treasurer, and director. He is a recipient of The Rotary Foundation's Citation for Meritorious Service and its Distinguished Service Award. He has also received a meritorious service award from Rotary Down Under.

白義德與夫人Lorna現居紐西蘭奧克蘭市的Howick。他們育有兩子兩女及11名孫子女。

Bill and his wife, Lorna, live in Howick, Auckland, New Zealand. They have two sons and two daughters and 11 grandchildren.
