親愛的扶輪社員們：

Dear fellow Rotarians,

國際扶輪社長不能對某些扶輪計畫有所偏好。但是在我們多年來作為扶輪家庭的一份子，蘿娜及我總是特別喜歡扶輪的青少年計畫。

Rotary International presidents can’t have favorites among Rotary programs. But throughout our many years as part of the family of Rotary, Lorna and I have always had a special fondness for Rotary’s programs for young people.

扶輪少年服務團(Interact)、扶輪青年服務團(Rotaract)、及扶輪青少年領袖獎(RYLA)等計畫不僅對參加這些計畫的人，更是對扶輪的未來，有巨大的價值。藉由在青少年時期就開始介紹義工服務，這些扶輪社教給青少年們關於扶輪的終生教訓：來自幫助別人的滿足以及和好朋友一起行善的樂趣。每個人都受益，包括社區、青少年、及那些輔導青少年的扶輪社。就參與計畫的青少年所做的工作及他們學到的東西來講，受益是立竿見影的；就培養新世代作為未來潛在的扶輪社員來講，受益更是持續不斷的。

Programs like Interact, Rotaract, and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) have tremendous value, not only to their participants, but to the future of Rotary. By introducing volunteer service at an early age, these clubs teach the lifelong lessons of Rotary: the satisfaction that comes from helping others and the fun of good work with good friends. Everyone benefits, including the communities, the young people, and the Rotary clubs that sponsor young people. These benefits are immediate, in terms of the work members do and the lessons they learn, and they are long-lasting, in terms of raising a new generation of potential future Rotarians.

扶輪青少年交換(Rotary Youth Exchange)計畫及扶輪基金會的大使獎學金(Ambassadorial Scholarships)計畫讓每個人大開眼界。交換學生及大使獎學金學生在促進他們的教育的同時，也培養了國際瞭解、對他們的祖國有新的瞭解、並搭起通往新的及不同的文化的橋樑。

Programs like Rotary Youth Exchange and The Rotary Foundation’s Ambassadorial Scholarships open everyone’s eyes. Exchange students and Ambassadorial Scholars further their educations while fostering international understanding, gaining new appreciations of their homelands, and building bridges to new and different cultures.

搭橋的觀念對扶輪非常重要。透過分享計畫、透過分享知識、以及透過我們每年一度的國際扶輪年會的聯誼團聚，我們一起建立與世界各地的聯繫關係。無論你出席多少次國際年會，每次國際年會都與眾不同，而且是特殊的。2007年鹽湖城年會保證會是一次很棒的經驗，我促請你們都要出席。

The idea of building bridges is central to Rotary. Together, we work to create connections around the world by sharing projects, by sharing knowledge, and by coming together in fellowship at our annual RI Convention. No matter how many conventions you attend, each one is different and special. The 2007 convention in Salt Lake City promises to be a wonderful experience, and I urge you all to attend.

如果你住在美國，很方便透過公路或鐵路抵達鹽湖城，而且從美國大部份地區前往，沿路將看到優美的風景。如果你搭飛機去，大部份主要航空樞紐都有航班飛往鹽湖城，而且市中心離機場只有幾分鐘車程。鹽湖城有乾淨的街道、友善的居民、而且風景優美，是作為國際扶輪年會的完美地點，也是全家度假的好地方。

If you live in the United States, Salt Lake City is easily accessible by road or rail, and it is a scenic trip from most parts of the country. If you will be arriving by air, it is an easy trip from most major hubs, and downtown is just a few minutes from the airport. With its clean streets, friendly inhabitants, and great natural beauty, Salt Lake City is the perfect site for an RI Convention and a wonderful destination for a family vacation.

This year, convention registration will begin a month earlier than usual. For the lowest rates, register by 1 December 2006. (If you’re 18 or younger, a member of an Interact or Rotaract club, a Rotary Youth Exchange student, or the recipient of a Rotary Foundation scholarship or fellowship, be sure to check out the reduced rates available to you.)
