敬愛的扶輪社員們：
Dear fellow Rotarians,
一月是扶輪理解月(Rotary Awareness Month)。理解是扶輪工作的重要一環，它可以分成兩部份。
January is Rotary Awareness Month. Awareness is an important part of the Rotary work that can be divided into two parts.
社員們務必徹底理解扶輪的目標，即扶輪是一個致力於和平以及促進人與人彼此更加瞭解的組織。同樣重要的是要知道我們的年度重點工作。今年，我們廣泛地從事識字、水管理、防飢、保健、以及，最後一項，公共形象。我們已經成立三個資源小組在這三個領域支援各總監、地區及扶輪社。
It is imperative that members are well aware of Rotary’s goals – that Rotary is an organization that works for peace and better understanding between people. It is also important to know our annual emphases. This year, we are working extensively with literacy, water management, hunger, and health; and finally, with public image. We have three resource groups in place to support governors, districts and clubs within these three areas.
我們也必須理解扶輪廣泛的青少年計畫。扶輪少年服務團計畫是為14-18歲的少年而設，而扶輪青年服務團計畫是為18-30歲成年青年而設。我們有一個為中學生而設的青少年交換計畫非常受歡迎，以及數個提供大學獎學金的計畫。扶輪社員也可以為青少年舉辦扶輪青少年領袖獎（RYLA）計畫及團體研究交換計畫。
We must also be aware of Rotary’s extensive youth programs. Interact is for young people ages 14-18 and Rotaract is for young adults ages 18-30. We have a very popular youth exchange program for high school students and several programs offering university scholarships. Rotarians can also offer a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program and a Group Study Exchange for young people.

In our work, it is important that we all know that there are 1.2 million Rotarians in 168 countries. We have a head office in Evanston, Ill., USA, and seven other regional offices for Brazil, Europe and Africa, Japan, Korea, South Asia, Southern South America, and the South Pacific and the Philippines – all there to serve Rotarians. Rotary International is led by the 17 members of the Rotary International Board of Directors and chaired by the RI president.
國際扶輪的財務與扶輪基金會（TRF）的財務完全分開，我們的計畫經費大部份是透過後者來撥出。扶輪基金會有自己的保管委員會及其主委。
Rotary International’s finances are totally separate from those of The Rotary Foundation (TRF) – through which most of our project money is channeled. The Foundation has its own board of trustees and its own chairman.
扶輪理解的另一部份是把我們的資訊與外界分享。扶輪是由一群有豐沛人際網絡的領導人所構成。此刻該是我們讓全世界知道多年來我們所成就的好事的時候。扶輪社員們不僅有機會而且必須在公部門以及私部門促進理解世界各種問題以及如何透過合作以及持續努力來解決這些問題。我們必須協助增進社會理解聯合國的千禧年發展計畫有關教育、飲水及衛生的目的及目標：
The other part of Rotary awareness is the sharing of information outside of our organization. Rotary is a group of leaders with a superb network. It is time for us to let the world know about all the good things that we have accomplished over so many years. Rotarians have the opportunity to – and must – create awareness among the public sector as well as the private sector regarding world problems and how they can be solved through cooperation and continuity. We must help in creating awareness in society of the United Nations’ Millennium Development goals and targets related to education and drinking water and sanitation:
