What The Rotary Foundation means to me now and for the future

The Rotary Foundation gives Rotarians a vehicle to carry on the “dream” of Arch Klumph and do “good in the world.” Our organization’s humanitarian arm gives us the opportunity through volunteer service and financial assistance to make a difference in our community and the world community. It allows us, now and in the future, to assist those in need. It allows us to “do good” and “feel good” as we strive to make a difference through our service to mankind.

Rocky is a retired school system administrator. Following retirement he coordinated and directed legislative activities for the Virginia Department of Education with members of Congress, the Virginia General Assembly, and various state and national education organizations. He has served the American Red Cross as a chapter Chairman, Chair of the Virginia and District of Columbia State Service Council, Chair of the Mid-Atlantic Region, and Vice-chair of the National Diversity Advisory Committee. He is president of the Board of Trustees of the Pungo District Hospital and serves on the hospital’s foundation board.

        A Rotarian since 1981, Rocky is a member of the Rotary club of Belhaven NC. He was club president of the Rotary club of Springfield, VA in 1987-88.  He has served as District Trainer and District Extension Chairperson.

        As chair of his district’s Disaster Committee after the destructive Hurricane Floyd of 1999, and Hurricane Isabel in 2003 Rocky helped raise approximately US$1,000,000 to aid the relief effort. These monies provided relief through Rotary clubs to over 5,000 families, many non-profit entities, and churches to help communities in the district rebuild.

        1999年的佛洛德颶風與2003年伊莎貝拉颶風席捲Rocky之後，他擔任地區的災禍委員會主委，幫助籌募了將近1,000,000美元以協助減輕災禍的努力。這些金錢透過扶輪社、許多非利益的團體與教會對超過5,000個家庭提供了緩解以協助地區內社區的重建。

        Rocky is recipient of the Citation for Meritorious Service. He and his wife JoAnne are Major Donors and charter members of the Bequest Society.
