What The Rotary Foundation means to me now and for the future

扶輪基金現在與未來對我有什麼意義

Does anyone doubt that we live in an age of incivility, of distrust of other cultures? How can an average person hope to strengthen the bonds of community; to foster the development of healthy and safe living environments, to nurture civic trust and responsibility in their local and our global community? How do we respond?

A major part of the solution is Our Foundation. There is a trust among Rotarians, no matter their faith, color, or domicile. Participation in Our Foundation improves our own global understanding while creating lasting legacies of goodwill. We are simply friends helping friends; often friends that we will never meet.

有人懷疑過我們處在一種粗野、不信任其他文化的時代裡？一位普通人問到要如何期盼加強社區的聯繫；促進健康和安全居住環境的發展，在他們的當地社區和我們的國際社會中去教育彼此對城市的信任和責任？我們要如何回答？

一個主要解決的辦法就是我們的扶輪基金會。扶輪社社員不論他們的信仰、膚色或者住處彼此間信任著。參加我們的扶輪基金會在創作了持久的行善遺產時會增進了我們自我對全球的瞭解。我們僅僅是朋友幫助朋友；我們經常是不常見面的朋友。

Andy is an attorney in private practice, representing banks, manufacturing firms, and retail chains. He is licensed in both the US federal and state courts.

A Rotarian since 1981, Andy is a member of the Rotary club of Gulfway-Hobby Airport (Houston), where he served as club president in 1988-89. He has served as Rotary International Training leader (2001-02), GETS Training Leader (2001-02,04), and RI Assembly Training Leader in 2003. Andy has also served as Permanent Fund National Advisor (2000-02), and on the Polio Eradication Private Sector Initiative (2000-02).

While governor, Andy received the Calgary Challenge Award for membership growth at the International Convention. He has also been named district Rotarian of the year, district president of the year, and club Rotarian of the year. Andy was instrumental in writing and locating funding for many grants, especially for literacy projects. Visiting a project site in Mexico City, Andy saw first hand the positive effect of this project, which had been expanded to teach literacy in the prison. Andy has also taken part in a National Immunization Day in India.
