Shigekazu has been the director of Jifukai Miyazaki Hospital since 1967. He has served as a chair of the Election Administration Committee in Fukui prefecture for four years. Shigekazu also serves as director of the Fukui Central Credit Union. He was the president of the Saigun Medical Doctors Association.
A Rotarian since 1972, Shigekazu is a member of the Rotary club of Fukui Fukui where he served as club president in 1985-86.

Shigekazu has encouraged each district in Zone 3 to organize events for foundation alumni. D2630 and D2650 held a charity concert for alumni in 2001-02. D2630 sent funds they raised to PolioPlus and D2650 sent funds they raised to refugees in Afghanistan.
Shigekazu has worked in his district with World Health Organization’s Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO) to eradicate polio. He has visited several countries, including Vietnam, China, and Cambodia in support of the polio eradication effort.
Shigekazu is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Major Donor, and Bequest Society member. He is recipient of the Citation for Meritorious Service, and received the Presidential Citation for Distinguished Past Governors. Shigekazu’s interests include reading and horticulture.
