Rotarians rock and roll,

look forward to Governor¡¦s banquet

The ebony skies were alit Friday night when the stars of Rotary District 3870 came to sing, dance and frolic during the Fellowship Night at the poolside of Xavier Sports & Country Club.

Participants of the 19th DisCon sashayed their night away to the music feel and fashion of the ¡¥60s ¡V a befitting way to end the second day of the convention. Judging by the time the party ended, everybody undoubtedly enjoyed the activity.

On the other hand, everyone is also looking forward to the Governor¡¦s Banquet on Saturday night, April 5, at the Mindanao Ballroom of the Pryce Plaza Hotel.

District Governor Ruben A. Vegafria shall be the Personality of the night, along with Lady Maricel and his family. DG Ruben shall have celebrated his 14 years in the rotary movement, capped by his Most Outstanding Rotarian of the District Award in RY 1994-1995. He is credited for organizing the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Far East.

From the DG and the host chapter, everyone is invited to the ball!


PP Rolly Uy bags golf championship

PP Rolly Uy of the RC of West CDO bested all other golfers in the Class A competition, while CP Wingwing Roa of the RC Carmen Valley West was 1st Runner-up.

Proving that the Rotarian is the complete athlete, the 19th DisCon witnessed the best moves of its members during the sports activities on April 3, the first day of the 19th DisCon.

Rtn Ed Llosa of the RC West CDO, Chairman of the DisCon Sports Committee, gave out the following results of the games:

Golf: Class B Champion ¡V PP Carlo Romero (RC of CDO), 1st R¡¦up-PDG Al Manus (RC West CDO); Class C Champion ¡V Rtn Peter Unabia (RC Carmen Valley West), 1st R¡¦up-pp Jose Gonzaga (RC of CDO); Ladies Champion- Ann Celine Menes (RC West CDO).

Lawn Tennis: Champion (Doubles)-Trns Rey Mortiz & Boy Gallao (RC Gingoog), R¡¦up (Doubles)-Rtns Arnel Maximo & Rommel Josue (RC Bay Area), MVP-Rtn Jimbo Chaves, (RC Bay Area), Most Promising Player-Rtn Jerry Basilan (RC Bay Area).

Bowling: Male Champion-Rtn Sol Gampong (RC Metro CDO), 1st R¡¦up 0Rtn Elmer Flelita (RC Kidapawan West), 1nd R¡¦up-Rtn Pedro Amante Jr. (RC PIEMO). Female Champion-Ann Chona Sarte (RC PIEMO), 1st R¡¦up-Ann Geraldine Borja (RC West CDO).

Billiards: Champion-Rtn. Jun Lozada (RC Gingoog), 1st R¡¦up-Rtn Lito Busgano (RC West CDO), 2nd R¡¦up-Rtn Ferdi Miranda (RC Metro CDO).

DISTRICT SECRETARY¡¦S REPORT

Geographical Location

District 3870 is comprised of the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte and Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat; and the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Malaybalay, Gingoog, Iligan, Marawi, Cotabato, Kidapawan, and Tacurong. Indeed, the district is solidly Mindanao.

Membership

The District has 40 clubs in July 1, 2002 with 902 Rotarians. Once club, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Centerpoint, was chartered in October 23, 2002. As of March 31, 2003, with two (2) clubs terminated, the district was left with 39 clubs with a total membership of 1,029 Rotarians; there is a modest increase of 127 Rotarians representing a growth rate of 14%.

Two clubs, the Rotary Club of Metro Cagayan de Oro and the Rotary Club of Kidapawan East, recently celebrated their 25th charter anniversaries. Our congratulations to both clubs.

Seminars, Workshops & Other Activities

District 3870 conducted the following seminars and workshops:

The District Training Seminar was conducted last January 18-19, 2002. The services of Southern Isis Konsult, Inc., a consultancy and management expert in human and natural resource development, were engaged to train 18 trainors for the Technology of Participation. The resulting District Training Team subsequently conducted the President-Elect Training Seminars, District Assembly, District Officers¡¦ Workshop, and the Membership Development Workshop.

The District Team Training Seminar for Assistant Governors and District Officers was held last February 16, 2002.

The President-Elect Training Seminars were conducted for Zone 3 clubs on March 1-2, 2002 in Cotabato City and was hosted by the Rotary Club of Cotabato East, while clubs belonging to Zones 1,2 and 4 had had their seminars on March 8-9, 2002 in Cagayan de Oro City and was hosted by the Rotary Club of Kalayaan Cagayan de Oro.

The district Assembly which was hosted by the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro was held on May 17-18, 2002 in Cagayan de Oro City.

The Membership Development Seminars were conducted for Zone 2 in August 3, 2002, hosted by the Rotary Club of Iligan North; for Zone 3A in August 24, 2002, hosted by the Rotary Club of Cotabato South; for Zone #B in August 31, 2002, hosted by the Rotary Club of Kidapawan West; and lastly, for Zpones 1 and 4 in August 31, 2003 and hosted by the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro.

The Rotary Community Corps Seminar which was hosted by the Rotary Club of Carmen Valley was held in November 23, 2002.

The Rotaract Convention which is now being held simultaneously with this District Conference.

The 19th District Conference, hosted by the Rotary Club of West Cagayan de Oro. For your information, as of April 3, a total of 452 Rotarians and 96 guests have registered for this DisCon.

Governor¡¦s Official Club Visits

The District Governor¡¦s Official Club Visits started in August 5, 2002. He visited the Zone 4 and Zone 2 clubs in August, Zone 3 clubs in September, and Zone 1 clubs in October.

Others Right now, there are 24 Rotary Community Corps, 15 Rotaract Clubs and 12 Interact Clubs.
