Lady Mary Estess, Guests and Friends:
On behalf of Taiwanese Rotarians and their spouses, I want to welcome you
again to Taipei. There is a famous Chinese saying: “ It is a great pleasure
to welcome friends from far away places.” It is indeed a pleasure to see
you in my hometown. During the next few days, I hope you get the
opportunity to visit Taipei’s museums, try different Taiwanese and Chinese
food, and shop in the night markets and department stores.
Today, we have arranged two very special
programs for you. The first is the tea ceremony, which is an important part
of Taiwanese culture. As you know, Taiwan is famous for its tea, such as
oolong tea. It is a Taiwanese custom to serve the best tea to their guests.
We want to show our appreciation and hospitality. During the tea ceremony,
our host will teach you various ways of tea making and tasting. Through
their help, you will not only get to enjoy the tea, but also experience a
sense of relaxation of both your mind and your body.
Another special
program is the magic art of napkin folding. Over 20 well-trained Rotarian
spouses will teach us nine different ways of folding napkins. We hope you
can use what we have learned today to help your private parties at home.
I hope you enjoy the program we have
prepared for you today. I like to thank PDG Archi’s wife, Betty. She has
been working very hard to make this happen. Let’s give her a big hand.
Once again, have a good time in Taiwan.
Thank you. |
