The Salt Palace will serve as the main venue for the 2007 RI Convention in Salt Lake City

From 17-20 June, Rotarians from around the world are gathering in one of the great cities of the American West, Salt Lake City for the 98th RI Convention. The event offers an international experience that goes far beyond typical weekly Rotary club meetings.

Attendees are surrounded by the global family of Rotary, experiencing firsthand the fellowship that only this event brings. In addition, Rotarians gain a deeper knowledge of the potential of Rotary and its Foundation through workshops, discussion group sessions, and plenaries.

RYLArians, Rotaractors, and other family of Rotary members also come from far and wide for several preconvention events. A first-time event this year is the Rotary World Peace Symposium in which 105 alumni and 71 current participants of The Rotary Foundation's two peace programs from 50 countries will assemble to honor the 10th anniversary of the Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution and 90th anniversary of The Rotary Foundation.

During the plenaries, speakers such as Francis Moloi will inspire Rotarians. On Monday, Moloi, a South African ambassador to India and former Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar, will speak on the session's theme: "Rotary In Action."

Tuesday's keynote plenary speaker is William H. Gates Sr., father of Microsoft's founder who chairs the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a major private sector supporter of the global polio eradication initiative.

On Wednesday, convention attendees will hear Hyrum W. Smith, a motivational speaker who helps individuals gain better control of their personal and professional lives through values-based time and life management.

When not at the plenary sessions, Rotarians will visit the House of Friendship to enjoy international fellowship while soaking in regional entertainment and culture. They will also browse through booths to find out how to join one of Rotary's many Global Networking Groups or visit exhibits that highlight Rotarians' work worldwide, ranging from health and hunger initiatives to microcredit projects.

Rotarians will attend workshops on topics including successful microcredit projects and listen to Rotarian author Stephen R. Covey's presentation on leadership.

Whether meeting other Rotarians through fun-filled host city events or participating in engaging discussions about club projects, Rotarians will enjoy a convention that fosters fellowship and enhanced understanding of Rotary to inspire them their clubs throughout the year.
